Montgomery & Associates (M&A) is proud to have recently sponsored a panel presentation titled “Managing Demand: Shared Challenges, Diverse Approaches from Agricultural Basins Across California,” hosted by the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRA) and organized and planned by Abby Ostovar, Ph.D., Senior Water Policy Consultant at M&A and Vice President Northern Region of GRA’s Central Coast Branch.

As the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) is in its tenth year and now shifting to the implementation phase, groundwater basins across the state are realizing the importance of not only managing groundwater supplies but also demand. M&A has been engaged in various types of demand management for clients across the state, and Ostovar has been at the forefront, leading a team of M&A experts in this effort.

“It was a privilege to facilitate this event and bring together a core group of speakers with deep expertise in SGMA and demand management,” Ostovar said. “There are a variety of voluntary and mandatory measures – such as extraction fees, allocations, and adjudications – that must be considered through legal, economic, and hydrologic lenses to determine what best constitutes equitable demand. I’m proud to have contributed to this critical conversation and proud that M&A is helping our clients navigate the path toward achieving long-term sustainability.”
