Montgomery & Associates (M&A) provides a range of hydrogeological services to address evolving client challenges throughout the western United States and South America.

Our Expertise

M&A specializes in groundwater, which is an essential resource in today’s world. It is used to supply water and power to our communities, grow our food, sustain ecosystems, and support mining and industry, which are vital to our future. Groundwater is also a complex, shared, and limited resource, subject to hydrogeologic uncertainty, everchanging regulatory policies, debated legal doctrines, and socioeconomic forces that mandate its sustainable use. Understanding and complying with these conflicting rules of use requires diverse expertise.

Our History

Founded in 1984 by Dr. Errol “Monte” Montgomery, M&A grew out of Monte’s early consulting work with Dr. John Harshbarger, founder of the University of Arizona (UA) Department of Hydrology & Water Resources. Over two decades, M&A built its reputation on the expertise of graduates from the UA program. In 2005, a group of principal employees, many of whom remain with the company, purchased M&A from Monte. Still independently owned by practicing scientists, our company has seen substantial growth and expansion, including the acquisition of HydroMetrics Water Resources Inc., a highly respected California groundwater management firm.

Our Clients

M&A has a history of partnering with clients to develop, manage, and protect groundwater resources. Our loyal clients include water agencies, water providers, mining companies, power and industry, agriculture, non-governmental organizations, and tribal groups who have come to expect technical innovation combined with a strong, practical understanding of groundwater science. We provide our clients with objective, science-based solutions to their water resource challenges.
