This week, the Tucson office is hosting the 2024 Arizona Hydrological Society (AHS) Halpenny Intern Scholarship recipient, Sam Booker, a hydrology and atmospheric sciences student at the University of Arizona. In addition to his work in the office with Marla Odom, groundwater hydrologist, and Leslie Katz, P.G., principal hydrogeologist, Sam spent a day with Andrew Feltman, P.G., senior hydrogeologist in Phoenix, who gave him an overview of the drilling process.
Each year since 1996, the AHS Tucson chapter awards the Halpenny scholarship to a student enrolled in a hydrology related discipline at any Arizona college or university. The award—named for Arizona hydrology pioneer Leonard Halpenny who initiated the scholarship—includes a cash prize as well as the opportunity to gain practical experience with water resource consulting firms and environmental organizations in the Tucson area. Ms. Odom received the inaugural internship when she was a UA student, and since then M&A has hired many other Halpenny interns.
