Each year, M&A sponsors a summer internship at the University of Arizona’s Water Resources Research Center for a student who is interested in gaining experience writing about environmental and water resource issues. The selected intern contributes to an issue of Arroyo, an annual WRRC publication that focuses on a water issue of regional relevance. This year’s topic is the value of water.
The 2013 intern, Max Efrein, was selected from a pool of student applicants from the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University. A senior in journalism and history, Max recently received the Donovan Kramer Scholarship from the UA School of Journalism for 2013–14. Last March, he volunteered for Global Water Brigades along the southern coast of Ghana, where he helped construct rain-harvesting systems for an impoverished community.
Last year’s internship was awarded to Madhumitha Raghav, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Chemical & Environmental Engineering at the UA, who wrote about emerging contaminants of concern in water. To download the 2013 Arroyo, click here.
