In collaboration with the Ministry of Mining of Jujuy in northwest Argentina, Montgomery & Associates has developed an integrated conceptual and numerical model for the Cauchari–Olaroz basin. This cooperative effort involves communities, companies, and public institutions working toward the responsible management of water resources for lithium development.
As part of this initiative, the Montgomery & Associates team led a workshop on applied hydrology in the high Andean basins, which aimed to strengthen technical capacities and promote sustainable management among key stakeholders.
Participating in the workshop were Manuel Merino, M&A Santiago Operations Manager, and José Ferretti, Salta Operations Manager, alongside Governor Carlos Sadir of Jujuy, and representatives from Rio Tinto, South American Salars S.A., Minera Exar S.A., and local communities from the region.
All participants agreed on the importance of integrating this type of study into existing environmental monitoring frameworks as a foundation for informed and sustainable decision making in environmentally sensitive areas.
