Colin Kikuchi is the author of one of 17 commentaries written by early-career groundwater scientists and engineers on the subject of innovative approaches to groundwater modeling.  Each author has a commentary that is published in a special section within the September-October 2017 issue of the  technical journal, Groundwater.

Colin’s paper is titled “Toward Increased Use of Data Worth Analyses in Groundwater Studies”. Data worth analyses aim to provide some measure of how useful different groundwater datasets will be, prior to collecting the data.  Such analyses can be used to tailor groundwater investigations to specific objectives of interest. The paper reviews the state of the science in data worth analyses, and future challenges in this field. The paper is based partially on Colin’s dissertation work, overseen by Dr. Ferré.

The section starts with an issue paper from Dr. Ty Ferré, who is a Professor at the University of Arizona and was the 2016 Darcy Lecturer. In that capacity, he presented his talk “Seeing Things Differently: Rethinking the Relationship Between Data, Models, and Decision-Making” at institutions around the world.  Montgomery & Associates was proud to sponsor last year’s Darcy Lecture Series by the National Groundwater Association Foundation.
