cover of winter issue of HydroVisionsMontgomery & Associates (M&A) is proud to announce the publication of its latest article in the Winter 2020 issue of HydroVisions, the official magazine of the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRA). Paul Pettit, senior mining hydrogeologist in the Elko office, co-wrote “Groundwater Management in the West Part 6: Nevada,” with Juliet McKenna, P.G., principal hydrogeologist in Tucson.

The sixth installment of HydroVisions’ series on groundwater management in the west looks at California’s eastern neighbor, Nevada, where surface water and groundwater resources are influenced by climate and geology. Nevada is the driest state in the United States, receiving an average of only 9.5 inches of precipitation each year. The article provides a brief history of Nevada water resources development and discusses conflicts between surface water and groundwater use as well as recent changes in water law. As with the previous installments in the “Groundwater Management in the West” series, this segment on Nevada closes with a comparison to California.

HydroVisions is circulated quarterly to more than 2,300 groundwater professionals and interested parties throughout California. Read Paul and Juliet’s article and the complete winter issue of HydroVisions here
