Practical plans to ensure reliable water supplies
M&A is a leader in developing and implementing plans to protect and manage groundwater and surface water resources. We have experience with groundwater planning across multiple basins and implementing groundwater projects to improve reliability and sustainability. Groundwater management plans address supply inventory, future demand projections, and various strategies and projects designed to reach sustainability or other desired conditions. M&A’s groundwater management services incorporate expertise in groundwater modeling, managed aquifer recharge, and water policy. We use modeling to evaluate scenarios, and we use visualization tools to communicate with stakeholders and clients.
Groundwater management services in California include implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). M&A staff members have been involved with SGMA since its inception in 2015, having served as advisors to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), water agencies, stakeholders, growers, and non-governmental organizations. This experience has given us a thorough understanding of SGMA legislation and the regulatory framework for developing and implementing locally driven Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs). Our early work included helping to form Groundwater Sustainability Agencies, applying to modify groundwater basin boundaries, securing grant funding, and leading GSP development across the state. We helped DWR develop the Guide to Annual Reports, Periodic Evaluations, and Plan Amendments, and we are supporting SGMA implementation in more than 20 basins and subbasins with reporting requirements.
Our approach to working with clients is collaborative, supporting them in decision making, project implementation, and planning the next steps toward water sustainability.
