Position Overview

Montgomery & Associates (M&A) is seeking a full-time Hydrogeologist to join our Phoenix office. The position includes mid- and senior-level responsibilities and requires the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The person in this position will interact with M&A team leaders, project staff, project managers, administrative personnel, clients, and regulators. Candidates should be self-motivated, and possess strong time management, communication, and organization skills. On the technical side, they will need to demonstrate proficiency with standard analytical approaches and tools and have a clear understanding of how to apply hydrogeologic principles to characterize and assess the sustainability of groundwater systems. Candidates will also have established connections in the Arizona water resources market, demonstrated success in developing new business, and project management experience.

Work Duties

  • Managing projects that focus on groundwater resources management including:
    • Hydrogeologic investigations
    • Well design, technical specifications, and oversight of drilling, construction, development, and testing; including municipal, agricultural, mining, injection, and monitoring wells
    • Permitting for assured and adequate water supply evaluations
    • Groundwater modeling evaluations
    • Conceptual model development for complex aquifers and systems with surface water / groundwater interactions
    • Mine permitting and monitoring
  • Directing, training, mentoring, and partnering with junior staff
  • Interacting with and managing relationships with clients and other project stakeholders, including regulatory agencies
  • Developing and/or capitalizing on business opportunities
  • Production well design including interpretation of lithologic, zonal water quality, and borehole geophysical data
  • Overseeing adherence with health and safety regulations, including applicable government, M&A, and client-specific policies and procedures
  • Preparing technical proposals, work plans, and reports

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in hydrology, geology, engineering, or environmental sciences
  • Understanding of groundwater principles
  • Seven to 15 years of experience in the water resources industry
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work in teams
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and ability to present technical information in group/meeting settings
  • Ability to engage in professional organizations, including presenting at conferences
  • Ability to pass background check and drug test if requested
  • Ability to legally work and reside in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in hydrology, geology, engineering, or environmental science
  • Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Professional registration (P.G. or P.E.)
  • Professional experience working with groundwater models, with particular emphasis on conceptual model development
  • Experience processing and analyzing pumping test data
