Edwin (&quot;Ed&quot;) McGavock falleci\u00f3 r\u00e1pida y pac\u00edficamente, rodeado de su querida amiga y esposa Suzanne y su adorada hija e hijo, Carolyn y Michael, en su casa en Prescott. Mientras nuestros pensamientos giran en torno a la tristeza y la p\u00e9rdida, la pasi\u00f3n y el entusiasmo con el que Ed vivi\u00f3 su vida nos recuerda que este tambi\u00e9n es un momento para expresar gratitud y honrar a un hombre verdaderamente especial.<\/p>\n<p>Ed se uni\u00f3 al equipo de fusiones y adquisiciones hace unos 21 a\u00f1os, despu\u00e9s de una ilustre carrera en el USGS. Siempre curioso y obstinado en su b\u00fasqueda de una mayor comprensi\u00f3n de los procesos terrestres, Ed nunca encontrar\u00eda la jubilaci\u00f3n como una buena opci\u00f3n. Ya sea trabajando en un &quot;proyecto&quot; oficial o simplemente satisfaciendo su propia necesidad de llegar al fondo de algo, incansablemente desenterr\u00f3 y busc\u00f3 datos. A veces, parec\u00eda una obligaci\u00f3n moral, un asunto personal, que Ed descubriera los hechos, los interpretara objetivamente y presentara sus observaciones y conclusiones de la manera m\u00e1s honesta posible. Con una memoria sin igual y una capacidad para pensar en grande, pudo ver c\u00f3mo las piezas complejas del rompecabezas hidrogeol\u00f3gico se un\u00edan de una manera que conduc\u00eda a soluciones pr\u00e1cticas. Sus conocimientos resultaron invaluables en investigaciones de recursos h\u00eddricos, evaluaciones de calidad del agua, evaluaciones ambientales y estudios de interacci\u00f3n de aguas superficiales y subterr\u00e1neas.<\/p>\n<p>Mientras estuvo en M&amp;A, Ed trabaj\u00f3 principalmente de forma remota desde su &quot;oficina&quot; en Sedona y luego en Prescott. Sin embargo, todos esper\u00e1bamos con ansias los momentos en que nos visitar\u00eda en Tucson o Phoenix. Hubo abrazos y tal vez un beso en la mejilla para las mujeres y sinceros apretones de manos y palmadas en la espalda para los hombres. Si bien el prop\u00f3sito de la visita siempre estuvo relacionado con el trabajo, Ed nunca perdi\u00f3 la oportunidad de compartir las \u00faltimas fotos de sus hijos y nietos, junto con historias de la vida con su amada esposa.<\/p>\n<p>Ed era ingenioso, amable, c\u00e1lido e imparcial. Ya sea que est\u00e9 de acuerdo o en desacuerdo con su posici\u00f3n sobre un asunto cient\u00edfico, pol\u00edtico o \u00e9tico, \u00e9l valora las opiniones y posiciones reflexivas de los dem\u00e1s. Apasionado en su deseo de disipar la informaci\u00f3n err\u00f3nea y elevar el coeficiente intelectual cient\u00edfico de la comunidad no t\u00e9cnica, Ed siempre fue un caballero. Cultiv\u00f3 activamente un discurso respetuoso y fue un modelo para muchos de nosotros sobre c\u00f3mo comprometernos con humildad.<\/p>\n<p>Echaremos de menos las reveladoras presentaciones de Ed en las reuniones de la Sociedad Hidrol\u00f3gica de Arizona, as\u00ed como su inagotable conocimiento de la hidrogeolog\u00eda de Arizona.
