Creada para brindar oportunidades para escribir sobre temas ambientales y de agua, la pasant\u00eda est\u00e1 abierta a estudiantes de las tres universidades estatales de Arizona. El ganador de este premio contribuye a la <em>Cauce seco de un r\u00edo<\/em>, una publicaci\u00f3n anual del WRRC que se enfoca en un tema cr\u00edtico del agua en Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>La pasante de este a\u00f1o es Madhumitha Raghav, Ph.D. candidato en el Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica y Ambiental de la UA. Madhumitha ha recibido varios otros premios prestigiosos: una beca para graduados de la Fundaci\u00f3n de Ciencias de Arizona, una beca Superfund Training Core, un premio al mejor resumen de investigaci\u00f3n y varias becas de viaje, entre otros. Durante los \u00faltimos 2 a\u00f1os, ha estado investigando m\u00e9todos para estabilizar residuos s\u00f3lidos que contienen ars\u00e9nico (un producto de los procesos de tratamiento de agua) en condiciones de vertedero. Su art\u00edculo \u201cMaking Wastewater Safe for Agriculture in Developing Countries\u201d se public\u00f3 recientemente en <em>Revista asi\u00e1tica de agua<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Para esta pasant\u00eda, Madhumitha planea centrarse en los contaminantes emergentes, espec\u00edficamente, sus fuentes, toxicidad, destino y transporte en el medio ambiente, as\u00ed como sus v\u00edas de exposici\u00f3n, riesgos para la salud e implicaciones para los formuladores de pol\u00edticas.<\/p>\n<p>El siguiente <em>Cauce seco de un r\u00edo<\/em> se publicar\u00e1 en la primavera de 2013.
